What is your wish for this project?
Our goal was to have students and staff donate as much food as was possible. We had the different grade levels compete against each other to see who could donate the most food, in pounds. I asked our district's program, which benefits our homeless student population, which foods they needed most. We then asked students to donate the foods that weighed the most, though they could donate any food item they wanted.
How did it go?
Our Great Weight Challenge was very successful! Students and staff donated almost 1,000 pounds of food. We were able to pass this food on to our school district's Adelante program which works to provide our students with food and other resources. The "bar graph" structure of the donate food boxes allowed students to see which grade levels had donated more food.
