The Problem

Site is a Charter School 1 mile from the Pacific Ocean. 1. Monitor rainfall at school site, (10" diameter rain collection funnel will drain into 1" diameter graduated measuring tube. This will assess rainfall per meteorological guidelines) 2. Establish rain barrel catchment system for garden use during drier months. 3. Create rain garden for excess runoff and for areas not connected to catchment system.

Our Plan

Students, and faculty, will become more aware of what an inch of rain is. Collected water will be used to grow, and ultimately harvest, vegetables and ornamental flowers. Rain garden will return rain water to ground instead of asphalt, cement and gutters draining rainfall directly to the ocean.
