What is your wish for this project?

The 13-17 year old Roots & Shoots group at Roger Williams Park Zoo was inspired when they learned that October was National Pit Bull Awareness Month. To celebrate, they wanted to create a project that would help a local pit bull rescue group and educate their communities on the stereotypes that surround this misunderstood breed.

How did it go?

By setting up donation boxes at various locations throughout our community, we were able to collect a number of donations for Handsome Dan's Rescue - a local organization that rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes pit bull type breed dogs. We then created pins to hand out to friends and classmates, the pins had anti-discrimination slogans on them as well as a link to a Pit Bull Perception quiz we created.
