We are joining a college campus team (which I am a part of) in our district that is going to provide backpacks and school supplies to low income students in our district. We have learned that there are students in our community that cannot afford to buy school supplies to be successful in their academic work.
We have obtained supply lists for a group of our 25, 8th grade graduating students and the same for 25 elementary students. We have selected 50 students as this is our first attempt. We hope to expand this project in the coming years. Some of the students who decided to participate to collect items are low income students themselves. Our school provides our students the necessary supplies, but the other low income students in the public schools don’t have that provision. So we will have a box to collect these items from our school community, pack them into backpacks, and offer them to our community college. Thereafter we will also participate in the distribution. If we are fortunate enough to receive your grant, I will take my students shopping to purchase some items for the supply drive. This will be an amazing experience for them. Thank you!
