Our project is to provide learning tools to our students. This will help them socially and educationally. We will distribute school supplies to those in need.

In the fall, we will dig a trench, fill it with maple logs from a tree that was cut down a couple of years ago, branches, etc. We will add composted leaves from our town, surround it with straw bales, and plant cover crops of winter rye and hairy vetch. In the spring, we will plant peas, which fix nitrogen, as well as being delicious. We would research other plants that would make sense for the area: maybe mushrooms, currants and blueberries. The result we would hope for would be good soil with lots of microorganism and edible plants for ourselves and the birds successfully grown from it. We would photograph it, and science classes could analyze the soil and micro-organisms. We would also use this as a demonstration of hugelkultur for students at all our schools and for the community - posting on a website and hosting visits.

Our project proposes the cultivation of fruits and vegetables that our youth and community members will be able to benefit from. Our youth will take part in the construction and continued maintenance of this fruit and vegetable garden. Monthly, our youth and members of the community that we serve will have the opportunity to access the garden's fruit and vegetables. There will be regular cooking classes offered to our youth that incorporate fruits and vegetables grown in the garden.

I am founder of Joy Group, Joy Group is a volunteering organization, with performers (volunteers) ranging from 7 years old to high school students, that I founded and am the current director of. I am also founder of Dreams Quarter, Dreams Quarter is my own student string quartet (two violinists, one violist, and one cellist). The goal of Joy Group & Dreams Quartet is to create a better Omaha community through music and a message of unity, with a focus on the elderly in the Omaha community. We do this through monthly or quarterly performances at various senior living communities across the Omaha Metro. Each of these performances is unique because we believe that each senior living community deserves to have its own special show and the best we can offer after all the work they have contributed during their lifetime to our community. For each of these shows, I have to plan each performance meticulously with a central theme in mind. I first have to reach out to senior living centers sometimes, however, these senior living communities would reach out to me. Then, I plan a certain date for the performance with the schedules of the other performers in mind. I would also plan a central theme for the performance and decide on the pieces of music, relating to the theme, that each performer could play based on their skill level and feedback from previous performances. Sometimes the pieces of music I need doesn’t exist in that skill level, arrangement, or at all. In these instances, I have spent hours arranging new music or composing music. I also plan rehearsals to ensure the whole show goes smoothly. I rehearse my own music and each of the transitions between different pieces to ensure that the performance is interactive with the audience since I’m also the host of the performances. I have had individual practice secessions with individuals that were struggling with the music to ensure everyone was prepared the best for the show. After a few performances, I decided that monthly performances, though a lot of work, weren’t enough to show our appreciation to the elderly community thus I also organize gift drives and personally delivered small tokens of appreciation, like balloons during Thanksgiving or red envelopes during Chinese New Years, to senior living communities. We have also begun making cookies and I would make the deliveries to senior living communities to remind the elderly that we care for them even when we weren’t physically there with them.

Our project will provide students with the opportunity to learn how to grow their own food using modern technologies that require less water than soil gardening and no pesticides. Students will learn how to determine a plants nutritional needs based off their appearance. In addition, the children will gain knowledge of specialized techniques required to grow at a higher altitude all while instilling the love for fresh organic fruits and vegetables they have grown themselves.

I hope to host the "International Day of Self Love" on February 13th, the day before Valentine's Day, because it's important to love and accept yourself before you can do the same for others. I want this to be a day that is widely celebrated, printed on every calendar around the world. The International Day of Self Love will be a day where individuals can let go of the one insecurity holding them back. Celebrating this day could mean anything, from going without make-up, practicing self-care, or leaving an abusive relationship. This day will be a day where individuals can love, celebrate, and accept themselves completely, without fear of judgment. This day will primarily be hosted on K-12 campuses. I will provide schools with program guides that cover several important social and emotional learning topics. Our guide will have activities focused on identity, mental health, courage, vulnerability, and anti-bullying. Once students explore these important topics, they will end their programming cycle by celebrating the International Day of Self Love. I hope to live in a world where every campus has access to these resources, creating a more open and accepting environment.

We plan to implement our goals through our three pillars - accessibility, conversation, and education. We plan to create educational modules on menstruation, menstrual hygiene, accessibility, and reproductive health to educate women about their periods. We will also have OB/GYNs approve all of these modules. We will host our first event - Samaan, a drive for equality in August 2019 to collect menstrual hygiene products to donate to women at certain locations in low income communities. Finally, through our interactive social media pages and website we will encourage students to take initiative in this movement for equality and begin speaking about periods fearlessly.

This garden will receive 8 raised beds, placed into the orchard garden. We will teach students to build the raised beds, install drip irrigation, seed crops. Students will learn to compost as we install a compost bin, cultivate the crops and the fruit trees. Students will learn abut water schedule, thinning seedlings, grow harvest to prepare a wholesome meal.

Activities will begin once teachers return to school the end of July. Students will come to school and help with the harvesting prior to the beginning of the school year in mid August. Students will prepare the soil for weeding, hoeing and replanting. Once school starts students and teachers sign up of class graden time to go out to help work in the garden. When our families come to school, community members and school district employees come to our school they will be taken on a garden tour by the student and class who are in charge of the garden at the time of the visit. This project will enable all of our students and teachers to have a vested interest in the outcome of our garden, the produce, protecting its beauty and securing students will have access to eat the produce from our garden.

We are located on a USDA research facility (although no funding for this project is from them), and have a lot of space to expand our bee program and project. Our high school students are interested in creating a program and a traveling trunk for younger students to learn about bees. We know that the population of honey bees is decreasing all of the time. Since we are a STEM center with programming for school age children and community stakeholders, we are going to develop kid-friendly information to help maintain and increase the bee population in our area. We have researched the type of foliage we need to plant, the equipment needed for our project, signage we need around the property, safety precautions, and citizen science activities about bees. Our students will be completing all of these research topics and putting them into action.
