Activities will begin once teachers return to school the end of July. Students will come to school and help with the harvesting prior to the beginning of the school year in mid August. Students will prepare the soil for weeding, hoeing and replanting. Once school starts students and teachers sign up of class graden time to go out to help work in the garden. When our families come to school, community members and school district employees come to our school they will be taken on a garden tour by the student and class who are in charge of the garden at the time of the visit. This project will enable all of our students and teachers to have a vested interest in the outcome of our garden, the produce, protecting its beauty and securing students will have access to eat the produce from our garden.

School gardens provide a wide range of benefits to both the student gardeners and the broader school community. For students, school gardens serve as living classrooms that teach lessons as simple as "where our food comes from" to complex lessons on ecology, resource management, nutrition and healthy lifestyles. The goal of this action is to encourage and support the creation and maintenance of school gardens. In order to earn points for this action, the garden needs to have been active during the current or previous growing season and include plantings that produce fruits, vegetables and/or herbs that could be consumed by students. The garden must be utilized to teach environmental and/or nutrition education involving students interacting with the garden for learning activities during the school year.

We are going to enclose and cultivate an unexploited piece of land at the yard behind the school. At the beginning of the project the help of the village community will be essential. The pupils will seed and adopt this piece of land throughout the year. In the school garden we will plant ornamental flowers, fruit trees and vegetables. Later, when the shoots grow, we will organize a day of healthy diet and focus on the importance of vegetables and fruits. This event will be open to the all the residents of the village and the local authorities.

We will plant an aromatic garden this summer. The location is a path that many schoolchildren use to walk to school each day. The hope is to have a beautiful surprise for everyone to see and enjoy when they return to school in September. We will add a hammock/swing between the two trees, eye catching trinkets, sparklies, painted rocks and more in the 'fairy garden' tradition.

Hawlemont's playground is the only public park in the town. We having been working over the past few years to add gardens and fruit trees for the town's enjoyment. The gardens and trees not only beautify the park but add healthy fruits and vegetables for the community to enjoy. We are hoping to be able to plant several more fruit trees and continue to add and enhance our gardens. This year we would like to plant 5 new fruit trees and add a raised bed for a tomato garden on the side of our barn.

Our garden was flourishing last year. The children were very excited to share in the Harvest as well as all of the work that needed doing to keep the garden healthy. I would love to replicate that experience again this year. Anyone that visits our school can see our beautification first hand.

I would like to hold a community clean up event on a Saturday as well as ask for tool donations. We will need to fertilize the soil in preparation for planting. We will plant seasonal vegetables that the students can grow, harvest, and eat. I live close to the school so I can look after the garden during long breaks. There are many fellow staff members willing to help and my class will be in charge of the area.
