We will research the best plants to feed bees and butterflies over winter and source either seeds or plants. When miss 4 graduates from kindergarten instead of anything plastic or things like balloons etc she will give everyone seeds or a plant with instructions to all of the children. She will also stand up and tell everyone how to look after them.

I am going to organize a beach-party pickup at a beach in New Jersey. It is open for everyone and encouraged to bring friends. The beaches appear fairly clean here but trash quickly piles up.

We are going to fill barren, compacted, nutrient deficient dirt with nutritious soil and native plants which will in turn attract native insects and birds, making our campus a more beautiful and healthy environment.

We will plant 4-5 pollinator gardens around Lexington in public areas. These will be in places that the public can enjoy them, but they will be focused on providing natural and native environments for bees, other pollinators and butterflies. We will make the spaces between 3’x3’ and 10’x10’. We are working with experts at native plants to ensure that we have the right plants, and the right combination of plants for each season. We will place signs at each garden to explain to the public what we are doing and to make sure they are aware of the current struggles and habitat losses that bees and butterflies are going through. We will also make sure that these are pesticide free spaces, and try to educate others about the use of pesticides.

Last year, our teachers had a very difficult time sourcing milkweed plants that each 2nd grade class needed to feed their live monarchs. With this garden bed, we hope to grow the important milkweed plant, along with other pollinator friendly plants, right on school grounds. Some seedlings have already been planted in temporary containers but need to be transplanted into a garden in April. We have plans for an inexpensive, yet sturdy raised wood bed and will also need to purchase the soil and compost for the bed, which we hope to have finished by mid-late April.

The first step of the project is to trim all of the trees in the trail/park area and clear out all brush. The second step of the project is to install trash receptors in order to keep the area cleaner. The third step of the project is to install a drip irrigation system for the fourth step of the project, which is to plant Califonia native plants. The fifth step of the project is to hang owl boxes. The sixth step of the project is to install a bird bath to be a source of water for the species who will inhabit the area.

Our campaign is in support of a little-known local Park District facility called Keay Nature Learning Center. The park is underutilized by our community. The environment is mostly healthy, but there are a number of invasive plant species which impact the native landscape. Working with the Park District, our group will work to eradicate native plant species without damaging the environment and to make the Nature Center more attractive to animals and people alike. One idea we have is to build and paint birdhouses to donate to Nature Center. These may help to attract and house a wider variety of birds, and they have the added benefit of being pleasing to people. We hope that the publicity from this effort will draw attention - and visitors - to the Nature Center.

In our meadow, we will plant native plants which are used to our area's weather and rainfall. It's 50 feet long and about 33 feet wide, and will have a path to walk through the meadow. Then we will place signs to show the different plants and why the help, and signs teaching about the different pollinators, and why they are important.

Our project will research and share information on Monarch Butterflies and Hummingbirds, while creating a hands on environment so our fellow classmates and school community can learn about these amazing creatures, while enjoying native plants that help support their existence.

The garden will give our amazing teachers a living classroom filled with real examples for their life-cycle, biodiversity and adaptation lessons. We will weed, lay weed cloth add free mulch from our local high school, then with the children's help add pollinator friendly plants that are local to our area. We would love to plant Milkweed to help the Monarch butterfly's, Dutchman's Pipe for the swallowtails and many other plants to help our hardworking pollinators.
