Our project will clean up the school garden which has been left untouched for 2 years and fix the rampant weeds that continue to grow there.

I have students create Power Point presentations to share what they've learned. We also complete pre and post tests after the field trips so we can collect data which tells us what the students have learned and why. I would use the grant money to buy plants for the garden. Parents and students help us maintain our garden. We also harvest our produce and make salads to share during our meetings.

We will complete this project during our parent engagement evening in September 2019. This project will give us the opportunity to include parents, as well as our students. This project will help sustain the work we completed this year.

Activities will begin once teachers return to school the end of July. Students will come to school and help with the harvesting prior to the beginning of the school year in mid August. Students will prepare the soil for weeding, hoeing and replanting. Once school starts students and teachers sign up of class graden time to go out to help work in the garden. When our families come to school, community members and school district employees come to our school they will be taken on a garden tour by the student and class who are in charge of the garden at the time of the visit. This project will enable all of our students and teachers to have a vested interest in the outcome of our garden, the produce, protecting its beauty and securing students will have access to eat the produce from our garden.

The goal of this project was to raise awareness about changes that anyone can make to reduce their carbon footprint, while also uniting our school's community through a plant giveaway. We created two kinds of booklets that we gave away along with the plants: one about how to support native plants and pollinators, and another about how to reduce your carbon footprint. We hoped that this project would raise awareness about the impact that an individual can have on the planet.

We will research the best plants to feed bees and butterflies over winter and source either seeds or plants. When miss 4 graduates from kindergarten instead of anything plastic or things like balloons etc she will give everyone seeds or a plant with instructions to all of the children. She will also stand up and tell everyone how to look after them.

School gardens provide a wide range of benefits to both the student gardeners and the broader school community. For students, school gardens serve as living classrooms that teach lessons as simple as "where our food comes from" to complex lessons on ecology, resource management, nutrition and healthy lifestyles. The goal of this action is to encourage and support the creation and maintenance of school gardens. In order to earn points for this action, the garden needs to have been active during the current or previous growing season and include plantings that produce fruits, vegetables and/or herbs that could be consumed by students. The garden must be utilized to teach environmental and/or nutrition education involving students interacting with the garden for learning activities during the school year.

We will know our group is successful by increasing our rate of diversion each year as our school and local community groups. We also hope to do some community outreach this summer to help increase recycling in our community. This mini grant would be used to help the Green Team build a community recycling program. Last school year we installed a plastic bag collection station at our school. We hope to install more and 1 or 2 in the surrounding community.
