Climate Change
& Habitat Loss

The planet is in crisis, but there is hope…

Our effect on our planet has been unnecessarily destructive. The climate is in crisis and habitats all around the world are being destroyed at an alarming and unsustainable rate. Despite this, we can still do something about it.

You can turn things around.

You can make better daily-decisions and take simple or big actions to combat emissions and other contributors to the climate crisis and habitat destruction. Did you know that preventing the continued loss and degradation of forests and supporting sustainable and appropriate restoration could contribute to one-third of total climate change mitigation required by 2030? And that restoring just 350 million hectares of forest could potentially sequester (offset) 1.7 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent annually (IUCN). That’s why the Jane Goodall Institute and Roots & Shoots are contributing to the Trillion Tree project.

Right here you’ll find so many ways to promote environmental protection and to help create a better world before it is too late.

What is climate change and what is habitat destruction?

The climate crisis – which threatens all life – was triggered by human activity. For too long, humans have been releasing large amounts of the gas carbon dioxide into the atmosphere due to industrialization and deforestation. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the main ‘greenhouse gases’ that trap the heat of the sun, raising global temperatures, causing ice sheets to melt unnaturally and sea levels to rise. It also causes extremes in weather, drought and increased wildfires, hurting humans and wildlife alike.

At the same time huge areas, including forests, have been cleared for agriculture, development, animal products, or extractive industries for small communities and big cities. Often land is burned, causing further massive release of CO2. People, other animals and ecoystems are being pushed past a breaking point.

We have hope that there’s still a window of time to do something about it…that hope is you!
